Pet rats are easy to care for and are highly intelligent. They are some of the few small animals who are able to master complex tricks.

Domestic or ‘fancy’ rats
are also extremely clean and actually groom themselves more than cats do. They can also be trained to use a litter tray which can make your cage cleaning routine significantly easier.

Rats are social animals
and once they get to know you will look forward to seeing you each day, actively seeking out your company when out of the cage. Rats are the sort of pets that will snuggle up on the sofa for a night of TV with their owners!

Unusually, rats will also adjust their sleeping patterns to be awake when you are around as they are very inquisitive so you needn’t worry about them sleeping all day and being up all night. This makes them ideal pets for people who work during the day as they will be delighted to see you first thing in the morning and when you return from work.

Rat cages and accessories are affordable and a rat will not cost as much to keep as a larger pet like a cat or dog. Rats also don’t need walking like a dog (although can easily be trained to walk on a small harness and lead if you fancy!)
